From Farm to Dog Bowl:
How the journey of Locally Sourced Dog Food Began
Our founder, Katherine, drew inspiration from her Geldenhuys family farming roots and her passion for animal wellness, environmental consciousness, and social change. Growing up, Katherine developed a deep connection with animals, as her family owned various breeds, including Dobermans, German Shepherds, Standard King Poodles, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and Pitbulls.
Emmarentia Raw is a business dedicated to providing natural and nutritious raw dog food for the well-being of dogs.
After the heartbreaking loss of her Rhodesian Ridgeback, Cairo, to cancer at the young age of 5, Katherine made a promise to herself that she would not have another dog until she was capable of meeting all of its needs. This involved understanding that caring for a dog requires more than she previously realized. When she turned 25, Arabella, a boxer, entered Katherine's life and changed it forever.
Katherine was dedicated to correcting any mistakes from her previous experience with Cairo. She started by training her new puppy with experienced professionals, which eventually led her to the raw dog food farm in Noordhoek a few years after moving to Cape Town in 2012.
With the help of other incredible women in the farming community, Katherine decided to take matters into her own hands and create a healthy raw dog food to benefit her current black German Shepard, Shadow and other service canines. Through her experience, Katherine discovered the importance of sourcing locally grown ingredients to ensure the highest quality and sustainability. Wholeness:
Emmarentia Raw believes that our canines, especially our working dogs, deserve the best foundation of health for longevity and to do important jobs. They are conscious of the fact that the choices we make in the 21st century can have grave consequences on our pets' health, which is why they are dedicated to providing the best possible nutrition for them.
Consciousness:
A new take on consciousness is not just for humans but for our animals as well. Emmarentia Raw understands that raw diets can lower the chances of weak immune systems in our canines. They believe that what we feed our dogs is just as important as what we feed ourselves. They are conscious of the fact that society, the FDA, and big corporations have issued us with "answers" and shortcuts to our health, which have led to huge diseases (disease) in all living things.
Farmer mentality:
Emmarentia Raw has a farmer mentality and is dedicated to getting back to our roots. They understand that most of us in the rural community of South Africa and worldwide have had the amazing opportunity to see how the efforts of what we plant - grows. In essence, they believe that waste itself has become an epidemic in our cultures globally, and they are using a combination of unwanted meat pieces and beautiful vegetables from hardworking farmers to create nutrient-rich dog food that feeds and nurtures our important companions and working dogs.
