From Farm to Dog Bowl: How the Journey of Locally Sourced Dog Food Began

Our founder, Katherine, drew inspiration from her Geldenhuys family farming roots and her passion for animal wellness, environmental consciousness, and social change. Growing up, she developed a deep connection with animals, as her family owned various breeds, including Dobermans, German Shepherds, Standard Poodles, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, and Pit Bulls.

Emmarentia Raw is a business dedicated to providing natural and nutritious raw dog food for the well-being of dogs. After experiencing the heartbreaking loss of her Rhodesian Ridgeback, Cairo, to cancer at just five years old, Katherine made a promise to herself that she would not adopt another dog until she was capable of meeting all of its needs. This realisation led her to understand that caring for a dog requires much more than she previously understood. When she turned 25, Arabella, a Boxer, entered Katherine's life and changed it forever.

Determined to correct any mistakes from her past experience with Cairo, Katherine began training her new puppy with experienced professionals. A few years after moving to Cape Town in 2012, she discovered a raw dog food farm in Noordhoek where she then become the manager of operations for 2 years. In 2017 after moving to the bush into a farming community with no raw dog food available, Katherine decided to take matters into her own hands and create healthy raw dog food for her current black German Shepherd, Shadow, as well as for other service dogs. Her journey highlighted the importance of sourcing locally grown ingredients to ensure the highest quality and sustainability of the dog food.

Emmarentia Raw believes that canines, especially working dogs, deserve the best foundation for health, longevity, and the ability to perform important roles. They recognize that the choices we make in the 21st century can have serious consequences on our pets' health, which is why they are committed to providing the highest quality nutrition.

Consciousness:

Emmarentia Raw promotes a new understanding of consciousness that extends beyond humans to our animals as well. They recognize that raw diets can strengthen immune systems in dogs and believe that what we feed our pets is just as important as what we feed ourselves. They are aware that society, the FDA, and large corporations have offered "answers" and shortcuts to health that have led to significant diseases in all living things.

Farmer Mentality

Emmarentia Raw embraces a farmer mentality, dedicated to returning to our roots. We understand that many in the rural communities of South Africa and around the world have seen firsthand how our efforts in planting can yield growth. We believe that waste has become an epidemic in global cultures and utilize a combination of unwanted meat scraps and fresh vegetables from hardworking farmers to create nutrient-rich dog food that nourishes our beloved pets and working dogs.
